On the road to greatness?
Having tried and reviewed several other TTS apps, I was excited to read about AiVOOV's additional features that were sadly lacking in the others--especially the voice styles, pauses, and emphasis. The full feature set was impressive and the character limits seemed very generous, certainly for a 1-year subscription. (Darn, no LTD on this one.)
So I purchased and was excited to try things out. I had a script I used on my last project ready to plug-in for comparison. First, let me say, that most of the premium voices are fantastic, and many of the standard ones are quite good as well. In English, you have the added benefit of being able to change it up with additional English voices from the UK, Aussie, NZ, Singapore, and more--so there's plenty to choose from. One bug cropped up amid the list of voices: the page display shows, "Showing 1 to 10 of 64 rows, 10 rows per page." However, each of the pages listed the same 10 voices from page 1, making me wonder whether there really were 64 English voices. However, when you go to 'Change a voice' inside of your project, there is a pop-up window that lists all the voice names with a small face icon--and indeed, there are fully 64 English-US voices, with more likely to come soon...!
Another issue appeared when I started my project, I got a "Could not start TTS Engine" error message in the Smart Editor, so I switched to the Classic Editor and all worked fine, but the process seemed a bit different when editing your segments. I couldn't quite get the "Emphasis" setting to work as I hoped, but I may still need to do some more experimenting.
Lastly, there are no prompts or buttons suggesting that you "Save" your projects. So I thought this might be one of those SaaS platforms that saves everything as you go. Obviously, I wouldn't want to recreate everything I just did if I needed to leave in the middle of a project. Sure enough, after clicking on the pulsating link for the "Tutorial/Help" page to see if I could find anything on 'Emphasis,' when I clicked <Back> in my browser, it happened, my project was gone, and I needed to start again. (Thankfully, I had copy/pasted everything into a notepad file beforehand.) At that point I decided to call it a night and explore some more when I was fresh in the morning.
The above notwithstanding, I actually like AiVOOV very much and believe it's going to fix these little issues and become a leader in this TTS niche. Hopefully my observations will help the team correct some things and get on to bigger and better! In the meantime, if you're looking for a good tool that may be on its way to greatness, take this for a spin and see if it brings the results you're looking for. I'll stand on 5 tacos for what this deal will soon be...!
