However, I am sorry but I would have to disagree & correct you on the point that we "REQUIRE" you to use MOZ API key.
You can choose not to add Moz API key and still use the product for monitoring your backlinks, check their indexing status & schedule the backlinks for prioritized indexing if they are not indexed. None of these "REQUIRE" you to use Moz API key. These are all the core functionalities of the product.
The part where you "REQUIRE" Moz API key is when you want to extract any data from Moz to ease your workflow, that's an added side-feature to save your time.
Secondly, Moz API is not a PAID ONLY service, it is a PAID service with FREE OPTION where you select a free plan as given on their page.
Thirdly, it is not a 'guessing game' with a 'huge bill' from Moz because it clearly asks you the plan you are subscribing to and their are no overage charges in the free plan as of now. You will have to explicitly buy a higher plan, they won't just charge you randomly.
What you choose to do is up to you but I need to clarify the product and its boundaries for other prospective buyers.

I am sorry to say but you don't need Moz API to use the tool.
The main purpose of Backlink Checker tool is to help you monitor your backlinks that you got with your explicit efforts, like with paid backlinks or link exchange.
After a lot of user's requests, we introduced a feature to discover new backlinks for your website so that you can save time in adding new backlinks. This tool is not trying to be a competitor of Moz, Ahrefs or SEMrush in any way.
Since discovering new backlinks incurs an expensive recurring cost at our end, we wouldn't want to promise it for now and then revoke the functionality or worse shut down the tool later.
Thus we have added the functionality to use your Moz API key to discover new backlinks so that you can save time in entering the details.
I just tested the flow. You just need to enter Moz API key in the Discover Backlinks section, not anywhere else.

Matt.LPLUSHi, the issue is you require us to get a MOZ API key. That's a paid service and until you get your own service without paying for this, I'll not use yours. The way you have it now, it's a guessing game and with a huge bill from MOZ for their API, that's certainly not an option for me. Best of luck to you.
