Canyon: My Go-To Platform for Job Applications

I think Canyon deserves a 5/5 rating. As a student currently applying for internships in the tech sector, I find Canyon's features incredibly useful for streamlining the application process.

Before purchasing the lifetime deal, I used the free version for about a week. This allowed me to explore the platform's capabilities and see its value firsthand before making the investment.

Pros

1. Responsive Support Team

- I encountered a limitation in the project section of the resume editor, where there wasn't an option to link my GitHub projects. I emailed the support team, and to my surprise, they added the feature the very next day. Which was really good .

2. Effective Resume Generation

- The resume generated by Canyon has consistently avoided parsing issues when submitting applications. It captures all necessary details accurately, ensuring that my resume is presented clearly to potential employers. I've not had a single parsing issue yet.

3. Cover Letter Generator

- The cover letter generator is one of my favorite features. It simplifies the process of creating tailored cover letters for different jobs, significantly reducing the time I spend on applications. With just a few clicks, I can generate a cover letter that aligns with the job description.

4. The Job Tracker

- The Job(Places I've applied, got offer from, wishlisted, Rejected) tracking feature functions similarly to a Trello board, allowing me to organize and view all my job applications in one place. I can easily prioritize which positions to focus on and keep track of my progress throughout the application process. This clarity has improved my overall organization and efficiency.

5. Customizable Resume Editing

- Canyon allows me to start from scratch or upload an existing resume. This flexibility makes it easy to update my resume quickly, especially as I gain more experience and skills. You can even share you resume through a link which makes it really helpful so then I can just link it in my portfolio website

Cons

1. Extension Issues

- While the browser extension is generally helpful, it can be finicky at times. Occasionally, it doesn’t automatically pop up when I need it, especially on job sites like LinkedIn. Additionally, when it does work, it sometimes fails to capture important job details, requiring me to manually paste information.

2. Opportunities for Enhanced Customization in the Resume Editor

- In the certifications section of my resume, it would be beneficial to add links directly to my certifications for easy access. Additionally, arranging certifications horizontally rather than vertically would help keep my resume concise without sacrificing any details.
- Another minor nitpick is in the project section; when I add a link to a project (like my personal portfolio or a GitHub project), the title appears in blue as a hyperlink. I would prefer the option to customize the color to match my resume’s design better.

3. Extension Compatibility

- The browser extension could expand its functionality to other job sites like BambooHR. While it works well for most sites, I've had to manually enter job details for a couple of them. HOWEVER, I appreciate that it successfully autofills information for the MAJORITY of sites used by employers.

Features I Would Like to See Added
-Enhanced Certification Section: Allow users to add links directly to certifications and arrange them horizontally for better layout options.

-Customization Options: Provide more customization options for hyperlink colors and styles in the project section of resumes.

Additional Thoughts

The ATS (Applicant Tracking System) score feature is another valuable tool within Canyon. It provides insights into how well my resume matches specific job requirements. While this feature is helpful, I have noticed that it can sometimes give misleading suggestions—such as indicating that I'm missing skills like "quick learner," which I don’t believe should be prioritized on a technical resume.(This is me being very nitpicky tough)

As for the interview preparation section, I have not utilized it extensively yet. From my initial impressions, it seems promising as it provides relevant questions related to the job type. However, since I haven’t explored it in depth, I can't provide comprehensive feedback at this time. I look forward to trying it out more as my applications progress

Overall, I highly recommend Canyon for its ease of use and effectiveness!
I really like this tool and believe it should deserver a better rating .
