Q: Does this track brand mentions only in Gemini, or does it also track them in Google's AI Overview?

A: Good question and it's something we've thought a lot about since launch.

Currently we call Gemini, so it does vary slightly from the AI overviews for Google. We've been debating whether we do the dev work to actually scrape the AI overviews, but there are a few challenges:

1. AI overviews don't always show for every search query, which can lead to some complications in terms of data representation and how we guide users on crafting prompts that consistently trigger those overviews.

2. We have a hunch Google and some of these other models may release a model (similar to Perplexity) where it has access to live data. Obviously we don't know what Google is going to do, but it seems increasingly likely given the rise of Perplexity.

3. It's generally a lot more costly to scrape than do an API call to Gemini, so we'd need to implement some sort of way to do this without shooting ourselves in the foot since we're locked into offering 30 prompts daily tracked based on this lifetime deal and other deals we've launched.

All in all, I think for now we're going to stay the course without scraping as it would require a completely different backend for us and we'll continue building using API calls so that when Google and some of these other AI models do release an API that incorporates live data, we can easily plug it into our tool.
