Q: What does it do that google doesnt?
Perhaps a naive Q. I use sheets and slides extensively. And you can pretty easily link sheets and slides to auto refresh natively.
What exactly does this do differently?

Current connections between Google Sheets and Google Slides do allow you to for example update tables and graphs in an individual presentation. The problem we're trying to solve is inserting data from Google Sheets (and other input sources) into presentations programmatically.
Essentially, you would make one template and one the back of that can create tens or hundreds of presentations where different aspects are customized based upon a data source.
The current connections you can build between Google Slides and Google Sheets only allow you to update 'embedded' data from a Google Sheet.
