Q: Questions Before Purchasing UniScribe on AppSumo
Hi David,
Congratulations on the launch of UniScribe! I came across it on AppSumo and am genuinely interested in what you’ve built. Before I move forward with a purchase, I had a few questions I was hoping you could help with:
Privacy & Data Security
You've mentioned data is stored in the USA and that you rely on GPT-4o-mini, Replicate, and FAL. Could you clarify:
1. Is any customer content (e.g., uploaded audio/video) sent to third-party services (like OpenAI or Replicate)?
2. How is sensitive data protected when processed via these third-party APIs
3. Can I permanently delete my data (including from those 3rd-party services)
4. Are you planning to publish a privacy policy or terms of service with detailed data handling practices?
Roadmap & Support
5. Will you offer folder/project management tools for users processing a lot of files?

Jun 2, 2025A: Hi, thanks so much for the thoughtful questions, they show you truly care about data privacy and long-term usability, and we really appreciate that.
1–3. Data Privacy & Use of Third-Party Services
Yes, UniScribe relies on third-party AI services for transcription and features like summaries, Q&A, and mind maps. There are two types of data transfers involved:
- Transcription: Your original audio/video file is encrypted and securely stored on Cloudflare server. We do not transfer it directly to third parties. Instead, we generate a temporary, time-limited link (valid for ~30 minutes) that allows the transcription API (e.g., Replicate or FAL) to access the file. These providers do not store the original file, and the transcription result is typically auto-deleted within 1–7 days, depending on the provider.
- AI Features: For features like summaries or mind maps, we send only the transcribed text to OpenAI’s API. Per OpenAI’s privacy policy, this data is not used for training, and it is automatically deleted after 30 days.
When you delete a transcription in UniScribe, all associated data (including original audio/video files and transcriptions) is permanently removed from our servers. Regarding third-party deletion timelines for transcription results, please refer to the explanation above.
If data privacy is a top priority for you, we totally understand. In that case, you might prefer transcription tools that run fully offline, without involving too much cloud services.
4. Will you publish a more detailed Privacy Policy and Terms of Service?
Yes — we currently have a basic Privacy Policy in place, and we’re working on an updated version that will offer more detailed and transparent explanations of how your data is handled at every stage.
5. Will there be folder or project management features for large volumes of files?
Yes — that’s on our roadmap! We’re exploring batch uploads, bulk transcription, and folder-based organization to better support users who work with a high volume of content.
Thanks again for your interest!
