My experience with Smart Clerk is:
It is not ready for commercial sale, IMHO. It's buggy, and you cannot rely upon the AI to know that a 'credit' is more likely to be 'income' than an 'expense'.

The handy AI training item only works for customers who are always customers, or suppliers who are always suppliers (and within only one catagory of purchases). Anything more sophisticated and you need to do it manually.

EG, we have a Director who gets paid a salary, but also gets paid expenses, and gets a loan repayment for the investment he made in the company. The AI has no way of differentiating those income & expense catagories - only able to check the 'name' field, so EVERYTHING becomes 'salary' (even the debits). We also have sub-contractors who sometimes get expenses repaid to them - which has to be MANUALLY identified and placed into the correct catagory.

Some of the above could be resolved if we could upload CSV files (instead of pdf statements), because although the statements do not have a Description column, the CSV does. As long as SMART Clerk (eventually, maybe, one day) gives the AI the capacity to look at Descriptions, then differentiate invoice and expense CODES.

It's annoying to find customer purchases in odd expense catagories - which means you need to go through everything to manually put things in the right place.

In other words, the AI isn't smart.
Most accounting software (even free versions) will be able to bring up a list of items with the same terms (eg, "NTCT" will show all suppliers with NTCT in the title), for you to tick them all and add them to a catagory. This is what I spent the day doing... adding customers to the 'income' catagory, and making sure suppliers have been added to the correct catagory... and getting annoyed when (after "training the AI) that when I add a new pdf, I have to go through the same suppliers and change them again (oops, the AI has no memory).

I have only used this with one bank account.
At the time of this review, Smart Clerk has sold out. Unless something significant changes, my advice woud be to ony purchase this if you wish to INVEST in Smart Clerk, in the hope that it will improve.

The team at SMART Clerk said they want feedback from the AppSummolings. This is mine, and I hope they go from strength to strength, and get this up to a decent standard ASAP.

I regret to say that my experience with this product has been frustrating. I purchased the service expecting accurate and timely historical data conversion, but the data provided was inaccurate and unusable. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, I received conflicting information and no real resolution. Additionally, I have serious privacy concerns regarding the handling of my personal data, which has not been satisfactorily addressed.

I delayed this review while waiting for the issues to be fixed, but unfortunately, they remain unresolved. They blame one issue on a combined PDF. However, most of the problems I encounter are with single credit card or bank statements that are not completely accurate. I would estimate that about 65% to 70% were converted correctly, while other statements were incorrect. I also found issues with certain credit cards not converting at all—which they claim they have now fixed. I am writing this review in hopes that they will resolve all issues, and I would welcome the opportunity to update my review. I have requested numerous meetings over the last month to address the additional issues without breaching privacy concerns, but they have refused.

I also paid for the add-ons for extra older years, but these were inaccurate. My attempts at a refund were unsuccessful despite not receiving the service I paid for.

As someone who has been an AppSumo purchaser for years, I expected better customer service and accountability. I would not recommend this product until the issues with data accuracy and privacy are fully resolved.

This software works well and does what it promotes. However, I have two things that I believe should be standard:

1. Reconciliation reports cannot be downloaded - I have to work too hard to copy and paste and reformat to share results at a meeting.

2. There is no manual - nothing to answer basic questions about 'how-to-do'

I would pay more for the software to be able to generate invoices for clients/members. The price is reasonable, so I am not complaining - I just wish it were an option.

Overall, it saves me time reconciling bank statements and categorizing items (I want to learn how to delete and add different categories, too - hmmm, can you say 'manual' :-)

Smart Clerk is the real deal, they are constantly improving the Pro Forma Accounting process to make sure that users' privacy is protected while still enabling us to have Pro Forma statements (right now just Income Statement but hopefully cashflow statement soon). I may have to lower my rating if they don't build in a way to automatically classify the transfers between your bank accounts as income, since for legal and real estate professions both, there is a need to have accounts which are considered Escrow or Client Funds, and currently it doesn't let you teach the ai, nor manually categorize, these transfers as income from clients. So there are some industries that can't use it yet but I think they will fix this asap.

Smart Clerk does what it says really well.
